Even the best quality windows won’t last forever and double glazed windows will last for around 20 years. It’s not just about looks, replacing your windows will reduce your energy bills, improve comfort and add value to your property. Here are the biggest signs that you shouldn’t put off installing new windows any longer:
Worn Out
Signs of rot or warping are a huge indicator that your windows need replacing. If you have timber windows, once rot has set it can be hard to stay on top of it. Poor quality uPVC windows may discolour over time and will expand in the heat, causing warping.
High Heating Bills
Old or inefficient windows can have a significant impact on your home’s insulation and can lead to high energy bills. The more heat that is able to escape your home the more you will be using your central heating to compensate. Stand next to your windows and seeing if it feels cooler than the rest of the room. Also, check for gaps in the frame where the heat can leak out from.
No Soundproofing
Modern windows are designed to reduce sound transfer which can make a huge difference if you live in a city centre or by a busy road. If you are struggling with sleep due to outside noise, replacing your windows can greatly improve the situation.
Condensation
Condensation can be easily wiped away from the window but ultimately it will end with mould growing inside the frame. If you find frequent condensation on your windows, there may be an issue with the seals. In the worst case scenario, these windows will start to leak.
In most instances, it’s probably more cost efficient to simply replace the windows. Repairing the seals is more expensive in the long run.
Draughts
Draughts can occur when windows are unable to shut properly. If the locking mechanism has become faulty or damaged it can cause draughts and create a potential security issues.
